Sensing through metal!

1/8/2014

Reventec has just release two new sensors which are revolutionary. Their new position sensor offers noncontact position sensing at air gaps up to 40mm for travels of 150mm through materials! That is right - through materials.
You could have a float in your fuel cell (or other liquid tank) and measure the level on the outside. Suspension measurements could be taken through bodywork, wheel liners, and pedal positions could be monitored outside pedal boxes. The ability to sense through a material opens up a lot of options and will give people much needed flexibility in how and where to monitor critical systems.

While I think the position sensor takes the cake, their new multi-turn torque sensor is no slouch. While they bill it for electric steering assist applications, I'm sure people will figure out many more.
